Water Troughs

Your trusted supplier of water troughs including long and super options, poly troughs, cup and saucer, and more

Water troughs may seem like simple containers, but as the source of life-giving water to your livestock, it’s essential to get the right one. Just as we prioritize the importance of healthy and clean drinking water for us and our families, our cattle, horses, sheep, pigs and other animals deserve the best, too.

A good stock water trough system can even be used for pools, vegetable gardens, drink coolers and more. With a range of types available, we’ve got a trough that will suit your specific needs.

Types Of Water Trough

Water troughs come in many different shapes and sizes. However, they may all serve the same purpose–to collect and store water. Generally, water troughs come in three different materials (or a combination): concrete, metal, and polyethylene.

Polyethylene or poly water troughs are economical and flexible. They’re easy to move and easy to clean, plus resistant to the elements with UV protection against sunlight, and won’t corrode. Plus, if you have particularly boisterous animals, a poly stock is great because it is not only durable, but can also flex back into shape after impact.

Another advantage to poly troughs is, unlike metal troughs, there is no risk of leaking contaminants minerals such as zinc into the drinking water, as they’re made from food-grade plastics.

In terms of size, there are small tub troughs, round troughs, long line water troughs, and heavy-duty supa water troughs. We’ve even got options for trough and tank systems known as cup and saucer tanks. The kind you choose will depend on your stock water needs.

Choosing a water trough

First, consider how much water you’ll need, which depends on the number of animalsin yourcare, and your storage space. This will determine the ideal size and shape of your watertrough. Always make sure your trough is easily accessible for watering, and it’s important tokeep growth in mind–a trough that’s suitable today might not be tomorrow if you expandyour cattle or livestock numbers. Planning for five to ten years is a good yardstick.

Long water troughs are great for large livestock like cattle and horses, who will drink from them for hours at a time. You can make these as long as you need them to be–just ensure your animals have room to rest, particularly if they have offspring.

Round troughs are smaller, and are typically used for sheep, goats and pigs, who tend to drink only a few times a day.

Tub water troughs are very popular due to their versatility. They can be used for cattle or sheep, and can be configured in a variety of shapes and sizes to match any farm setting. You can also use a tub water trough as a catchment tank or dog wash.

If your budget is limited, you may be able to get by with a smaller model. Keep in mind that a poly water trough needs cleaning roughly once every three days to ensure the standard of water quality remains high.
